In 1845, Henry David Thoreau built a small cabin on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts. He lived there for two years, two months, and two days, before returning to his family home. Thoreau’s time at Walden Pond was a period of self-sufficiency and introspection. He built his cabin with his own hands, using materials he found in the woods around the pond. Thoreau’s cabin was a simple structure, measuring just 10 feet by 15 feet. It had a single room, with a small loft for sleeping. Thoreau furnished his cabin with a bed, a table, and a few chairs. He spent his days reading, writing, and exploring the woods. At night, he would sit by the fire and reflect on the day’s events.
